This may be already listed somewhere, and if it is, I do apologize; but what are the ground rules for contacting an Asst. GM about a trade? I know for it to go through (maybe not, depending on the team's pre-existing agreement) they'll both need to formally agree to it. Should I always contact the Head GM, or can I negotiate with the assistant? I'm new and I don't want to step on any of the head GMs toes that have assistants. Let me know what's proper.

Personally I'd copy both guys on the e-mail and let them handle it unless you know what's up. Might not be a bad idea for those teams with assistant GMs to say "only contact head GM" or "copy both of us" in their trade blocks or something.

You can negotiate freely with mine. A good assistant would keep the GM in the loop anyway.

As far as I'm concerned an assistant can do all but confirm trades and signings

Thanks guys. I'll only contact the Asst. if the Head GM isn't online.

You guys are doing it wrong.

I've been using Hawks, Magic, and Nets as my assistant gm's since I've been here.

Well, then. I blame them for the Pelicans beating me 45+ games in a row.

Another question: what determines a player retiring from FA? Not playing 1 whole season?

I only PM assistant GMs if I want to make fun of them.  It's part of the initiation process.

If a player is not picked up for an entire season he is automatically retired I believe.

Makes sense.
