Welcome dude.

I have a bit of bad news for you.. Before the old Pistons GM left, he traded his 2035 first round pick to me in a Terrance Grant transaction but we were not able to post it since he's traded his 2034 pick away (to Spurs >:( ) FYI I'll be posting this once the 2035 season has started.

Just a heads up for you so it doesn't become a shock then.

well even if it isn't. why should he do this. this was a trade between the oldgm and the mavs. i can't see any argument why this trade still should be done. it is a risk for every gm to make such a trade and i really think we should forbid such deals.

100% disagree.  Since we can't trade two 1st rounders in a row it's entirely possible that you'd need to trade a 1st not shown on your current roster page; if you have your '34 1st, but don't have your '35 1st... the only 1st round pick you can trade is your '37, a pick that isn't on your current roster page.  Forbidding this would greatly reduce the opportunity for deals to be made, in a league where trades are already tough to come by sometimes.

And as for the trade not getting done; yes the deal was made by a previous GM but the deal benefited both franchises, and both franchises are responsible to uphold their part of the deal.  Even if there's a new GM in town.

well so if i trade my 040 pick to make a deal possible is this still an option? Sorry but being a gm means operatiing with what is available at the moment not in the future. that is like telling a guy i will give you 2000 cash i will earn in the future. i mean how many future considerations can you make before your team can't fullfill their duties anymore.

Of course it is an option. Just ask Isiah Thomas!  ;D As long as it doesn't violate any rules, GMs are free to use whatever assets they have, current or future.

If you think this is unreasonable, sim league probably isn't your thing. Fantasy bball is more suitable.

I understand both of what you're saying.. The problem here might be the fact there is no proof you are supposed to end up with that pick, and why didnt you say anything as soon as PistonsGM retired?

I have the PMs still if you need me to forward it. Ex-PistonsGM and I also posted (a deleted) trade thread for him trading nothing and I get the '35 pick. I think Clips said it wouldn't be valid since he traded his '34 first - hence it was deleted.

I wasn't aware Pistons retired until before I posted.

I understand both of what you're saying.. The problem here might be the fact there is no proof you are supposed to end up with that pick, and why didnt you say anything as soon as PistonsGM retired?

Well if it makes a difference, I, a long time ago made a deal with a team where I owed the team a 1st in a future year. The team I did business with, the GM retired before I managed to trade them the pick I owed them. I ended up trading the 1st to the new GM.

All in all, I still think Mav deserves to get the pick he's owed.

I dont disagree with this at all.. I just think that a) the timing sucks b) I have to see pms, etc., that 100% prove thats his pick.

OK guys I read my PMs before this thread. I didnt find the evidence to be irrefutable in my PM, but this comment I bolded I do remember. I remember clearly the old Pistons posting the thread but it would have left him without a first two years in a row. So he said he would repost when he got it. I clearly remember this attempted transaction and being aware that they had an unfinished business with a draft pick to the Mavs. For me, as Commish, that is enough proof for me.

Pat give us one more year kid.. This team is in shambles and we know you can have a ball with the crazy FA class.. Maybe just help out during free agency?

Title: Re: New Pistons
Post by: Pat on August 19, 2010, 11:16:36 AM
Hmm. If it's okay with the mods, I can control the team during FA. The team should still be considered open as far as everyone is concerned. I just feel responsible for leaving the team in shambles, so I'll try to make the team more attractive for the incoming GM.

We have a CavsGM (some of the time), so its not a CPU.

Pat: I have an unhealthy man crush on you, so you can pretty much do anything you want on these boards. Yes, I suppose that would include running your team in FA ;)
