1st Round Pick Option Rule:

After two years are up on 1st-round picks, when it's time to accept/deny RBSL player offers (after Finals, prior to draft lottery), you have the ability to squash the final two years of the contract.  One-time option, at the 2-year mark.  If you don't post otherwise, the contract is kept as is.

It is for players currently in/ending their 2nd season of their first round rookie contract.

2nd Round Pick Option Rule:

Options Available:
1 - You can cut him without any penalty or salary staying on your roster
2 - You can sign him to a 1 year minimum contract with no bird rights
3 - You can sign him to a 2 year minimum contract with no bird rights
4 - You can sign him to a 3 year contract: 2 years at the minimum, 3rd year at $1.5mil with full 4-year bird rights

Must be announced before Sim 1, or the player's contract defaults to Option 3.

So for example on my team Patrick Mason would be eligible to be cut?

The option is intended for players who have played two full years.  Unless we're retroactively allowing cuts, Mason wouldn't be eligible.  Cuts could only happen at the end of this season and Mason would have completed three years at that point.

It is for players currently in/ending their 2nd season of their first round rookie contract. For the Mavs, this year Murray would be eligible for this at the end of the season.

So what you're saying is that Mason isn't eligible as he's already completed his 2nd year and it's after the draft lotto?

Right. As per the roster page, he is in season 3 now

scenario:

What if i cut someone like Ellis or Bagaric during the first year or second year of their contract and had their salary counting against me for 2-3 additional years...if i cut them during the 1st or 2nd season, would I be able to use the option on the remaining 2 years of the "cut" contract?

If cut before the end of their second season, they're just cut players - with cut salary remaining for the duration (2+ years).

The window to exercise or decline their options is between the time that contract extensions are sent out and the end of the finals.

Correct. If you choose to cut bait before this window, the salary stays on your page.
