He was blocked extensively and this was obviously the best offer received.  I think there are plenty of reasons why Blazers would want to do this deal but I don't want to speak for him and this doesn't strike me as an extremely lopsided deal or anything.

If Kirkland doesn't resign - and as I will have a bad record and surrounding talent there is probably a decent chance he won't (see Stith, Juan) - I don't think anyone will be too upset about this trade. This package is about as good or better than the offers I got for Juan Mills, Russell, Irish, which is sad.

Of course I think this is a good trade for me or I wouldn't make it. We at the Jazz have a ton of picks and so can take a swing on an unsure thing. If Kirkland is on an extensign this is a bad trade but he's not. Someone is going to look silly after the first few days if free agency, but that's how these things go sometimes.
