Obviously in real life trades like this cannot happen for a variety of reasons but in a simulated game, it is different. I get that. I have questions regarding trades being accepted after the trade deadline and before the season and post season is over.

What happens if a traded player has a season ending injury? Is that even possibly in FBB3? Would the trade still go through?
What happens if a traded player retires? Would the trade still go through?

I am confused on what the advantage to making a trade like during the season and why not wait until the offseason. Any clarification would be helpful. Thank you!

A logical way that I look at it is when an assistant coach is offered a head coaching job next season and it's reported, but the assistant continues on with his current team until the end of the post season (like Alvin Gentry did with GS).

FYI, you can always do this (for the new GMs). You can also announce what day you'd like a trade to be processed. Like, if a player has a restriction because he was signed as a FA in the offseason or he was just traded for, you can find the sim that it'll be legal and avoid the TBD exception cost by prolonging the processing.

Advantage would be lock things up before the other person changed their mind. I know I've had 2nd thoughts on trades before but have been locked in due to posting/accepting on the forums. If the traded player retires, I think pretty much tough shit but I don't remember when exactly players retire. If the trade processes, and then the guy retires, that's your loss.

The only time I can remember this coming into play was with Jesse and I last season when Riley Gates retired. It didn't cause anyone to back off (especially since Jesse didn't want to take on his FBB2 contract), but it caused the deal to no longer match, so we needed to include TBD.
